Lili Xu’s boyfriend kills himself in custody after arrest


OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — The boyfriend of murdered Oakland dentist Lili Xu killed himself whereas in custody on Friday, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Division confirmed to KRON4. The person, 73-year-old Nelson Chia, had been arrested in reference to Xu’s demise, which police described as a murder-for-hire.

Xu was shot and killed in broad daylight on August 21 as she was getting out of a automobile close to tenth Road and fifth Avenue. A person approached the passenger’s facet of the automobile she was in. After what seemed like a battle for her belongings, she was killed.

OPD introduced Friday that Chia and Hasheem Bason, a 33-year-old Stockton resident, had been arrested for Xu’s demise. It was described as a murder-for-hire killing, not a hate crime or random assault.

“What does it say about our group once we can’t stroll down our personal road, go to a neighbor, or get pleasure from a picnic on the lake on a Sunday afternoon? We will and should do higher,” Oakland Metropolis Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas stated after the killing.

One other lethal capturing happened in Oakland’s Little Saigon neighborhood on July 17 when ride-share driver Kon Fung was shot and killed in his automobile. Two suspects ran as much as Fung’s automobile, fired photographs and fled.
